Director Information

Director: Francesca Steele Location: UK Website:http://www.francescasteele.co.uk Info: I examine issues concerned with mortality and the fragility of being, desire, fascination and seduction of beauty. I tread the tightrope of self /artist within the artwork. I become a mirror to my viewers’ own portrait; drawing a link between the time frame and the/this body. Duration and real time act as a catalyst, creating an aperture into the dialogue implicit with the self. I use a visual language heightened through the use of props, such as mirrors, objects or furniture that cite another time or suggest an otherworldly space. Playing with the symbolic values surrounding these objects and their allegorical presence, I draw the viewer from an initially optical and aesthetic encounter, into one that is qualitatively different - one experiential in nature. My intention is to examine the holes in our reality, the things we often don’t speak about, or can’t articulate: where language fails.
